Did you know...
... Children and teens have been a part of StreetART Flekkefjord since its start in 2015. In 2017, children contributed with chalk art in the streets. Since then, the 5th grade at a local school, Sunde, has contributed with art on the museum fence (Dr. Kraftsgate 15). They have focused on the following themes; hope, identity and Post Corona (the latter was 5th grade from 2020 which became 6th grade in 2021).
In 2018, the artist Daniel Yalew Steinset received help from a local kindergarten that sent him drawings of
"rock & roll trolls" that he could incorporate into his work, Fjellparken. The street art in Flekkefjord is for children of all ages!
Elsa Beskowβs Flekkefjord
Did you know that the grandfather of the author Elsa Beskow, who wrote the books about aunt Green, aunt Brown, aunt Violet and uncle Blue, was called Maartmann and was born in Fjellgaten 9, in Flekkefjord? Her books usually begin with: "Once upon a time there was a small town, and in this town there was a small street, and in that street there was a small, yellow house". This describes the street Fjellgaten, perfectly. It seems that Elsa was inspired by her grandfather's childhood home.
Several of the works of art you will find in Flekkefjord are inspired by Elsa Beskow's story, where small plants and animals become gigantic, leaving humans like miniatures in a giant world. Beskow's stories are written for children, but people of all ages find them interesting.
