HAMA WOODS (2015)

Organic, symbolic, and adventurous – Hama Woods is a stencil artist, based in Oslo. Her work demonstrates a reverence for nature and its immediate connection to humanity. In a search for methods to communicate the importance and revival of nature, Hama Woods stencils intuitively reflect and focus on a sociological approach to greed and human consumption and its direct effect on our natural environment.

Her works are characterized by hand cut, multi-layered stencils which are applied by spray paint. Woods´ artworks are placed in public and private spaces in and around Oslo. And now, in Flekkefjord too. Her hope is to empower and challenge viewers to come to their own conclusions and to rethink the choices they make, which effect today and tomorrow.

THE RABBIT (KANINEN)

«The Rabbit» - This piece of street art was created in 2015 in Fjellgaten, Flekkefjord. It was inspired by the author Elsa Beskow’s world. Her main message was to show how people become small and the animals’ world will eventually take over.

The children of the forest live deep in the roots of an old pine tree. Playing hide-and-seek with the squirrels, snowballing in the winter, each season brings its own adventures - but perhaps spring holds the best surprises of all.

The storybook 'Children of the Forest' by Elsa Beskow was the inspiration for Hama Woods' wall in Flekkefjord. The wall features a giant rabbit being fed strawberries via a rope-pulley system by small frogs. The adventurous settings and the fantasy-like scenes portrayed in the book was a great starting point for Woods. On a deeper level, in addition to the wall being inspired by Elsa Beskow’s childlike stories, the wall takes a critical angle, addressing the skewed distribution of benefits in our world.
