PEKKA STOKKE (2022)
«Darkitechture» og transformations – ljos studio which is owned and operated by Pekka Stokke, is a lab for experimental lighting design and exploration, for stage, architecture, and art installations. Shadow, refraction, material, colour, intensity, variation, surface, bounce, physical setting, surroundings, natural elements, and natural light are key ingredients to revealing, cloaking, transforming or amplifying spaces.
Pekka Stokke is a Norwegian visual artist focused on perception and its relationship with light, how light and projected structures can shape and transform physical reality and transcend the categories of our patterned reading of the world.
Light is architecture/darkitecture to fill the masses and voids of a spatial construction.
With a wide range of co-conspirators and associates, Pekka Stokke designs, builds and programs living sculptures using light in natural or artificial form, with any physical shape or material, as fits the project.
RANDOM CIRCUMSTANCES
Random Circumstances – This art of light was commissioned by Flekkefjord sparebank (savings bank) during their 185-year anniversary, in cooperation with Smaabyen Flekkefjord. The piece of art was created in 2022 and is situated at Lasta by Flekkefjord motorhome space and is glowing in the dark, when you put a light on it. The artist, Pekka Stokke, tells us that he was inspired by the game Tertris, when he created the art in Flekkefjord. He also thought of how cities are created.
– In some ways the space for the motorhomes is a crossroads. A place where it is dark and boring during the autumn and winter. My main challenge here, was to create art of light that would make people stop for a minute and think. Maybe passers-by could stand at the playground by the parking lot (REMA) and ponder a bit, wondering how this city was built. What matters is that elements meet and fit.
The title of this piece of street art «Random Circumstances», refers to how random experiences in our everyday lives, where things happen as we tag along.
- Let’s hope that everything will be all right, and that at least some pieces will fall into place, says the artist.
