SELFIE SPOTS (2018-2019)

VANISHING ART - 2017

Vanishing miniatures – Art pieces created in 2017 on Sirdalgaten, Bakkegaten, Fjellgaten and Nesgaten where ten pupils from the class Design and Redesign, made mini street art at various locations in the streets. Some of these pieces are still there. However, some have vanished. Several pieces were inspired by Elsa Beskow’s stories about “Aunt Green, aunt Brown and aunt Purple”.   The house where the author Elsa Beskow’grandfather was born and lived (Fjellgaten 9), still exists in Flekkefjord. It is believed that she was inspired by the historic part of Flekkefjord, when she wrote “Aunt Green, aunt Brown and aunt Purple”.  Her books normally start like this: «Once upon a time, in a little town, in a little street, in a yellow house”… which Fjellgaten actually is.

THE ANGEL - 2018

A colourful angel  – The colourful and optimistic «Angel» is placed at the corner of Melkebaren (The Milk Bar) and was created by Malin Lenz Litlehei, 10th grade, Flekkefjord junior high school, Design and Redesign. The angel reflects the theme of 2018, hope, by spreading its colourful wings of freedom at the wall of The Milk Bar. The inclusive rainbow colours lift the piece. Why not stand in front of the wings and become a Flekkefjord angel? The Angel is one of Flekkefjord’s popular selfie spots!

FLEKKEFJORD – 2019

Selfie spot at the playground – This striking piece of street art is found in Kirkegaten (Church street), at the playground by the city’s church. It is based on Helene Torkildsen’s design and made by pupils from Flekkefjord School of the Arts, visual communications department, in cooperation with the teacher Joel Toledo. This colourful piece of street art is a tribute to Flekkefjord. The city is seen from the old boat houses, by the river. The river and the city bridge dominate the piece, and it also symbolizes the pupils’ pride when it comes to their city. Joel Toledo was leading the art process and he wanted to make the playground “pop” by vivid use of colour. The silhouette in the water is Torkildsen herself, which was Toledo’s idea – This is the perfect selfie spot!

2020

The year we were hit by the corona pandemic, no street art was created in Flekkefjord.
