NIMI (2017)

Folklore and experimental style - The architect and street artist NIMI, or Naeem Searle as he was originally called, comes from South Africa and grew up in London. The artist now lives in Bergen and likes to experiment with many different techniques, creative processes and media. NIMI has, in collaboration with the Stavanger artist RH74, created two landmarks in Stavanger, which have been given the titles «Sofia and The Mountain» and «The Last Traveler». For StreetArt 2017, he has produced a work on the old fire station's tower, by Flekkefjord municipality. Like "Sofia and The Mountain" and "The Last Traveler", the work is based on Norwegian folklore.

“VEKTEREN” (THE WATCHMAN)

The mighty work that covers Flekkefjord's fire tower and has a panoramic view of the city - "The Watchman" or "The Guardian" - can both surprise and overwhelm anyone who walks around in one of Flekkefjord's historic areas, the Dutch quarter (Hollenderbyen). This is where you find most of the street art in Flekkefjord. When NIMI learned that he had been assigned the fire tower in the city as a "canvas", he wanted to make a guard. Each city used to have its own security guard who patrolled at night, lit street lights and alerted the city in case of fire. In this way, the "guard" also fits in with the small town of Flekkefjord. The Watchman is keeping the city safe.
